Science & Research

Our products are USDA organic, clean label, soy free, and plant based certified with minimally processed ingredients without fillers and sourced from three main whole food ingredients: almond butter, buckwheat flour, and tapioca maltodextrin. It contains natural sources of prebiotic fibers and healthful, plant derived unsaturated fat. It has ~50% less sugar per serving compared to other leading products, with the primary carbohydrate sources being buckwheat and tapioca, and although lower in sugar levels it is still delicious. It is compliant with the highest nutrient standards for children and is endorsed by leading U.S. pediatricians and dietitians.
Since those seeking something else to feed their children often have ingredient questions or concerns, healthcare professionals should be aware of these frequently asked questions as well as the scientific literature on these topics. Information on nutrient sources and suggested readings are outlined in this section.
MAIN INGREDIENTS
Almond Butter
Almond butter is a rich protein source, but also contains biotin, Vitamin E (an antioxidant), copper, and manganese. Almonds also provide good amounts of Vitamin B2 (riboflavin), phosphorus, magnesium, and molybdenum. They are also a great source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fat.
Almonds are a whole food alternative to cow’s milk whey, casein, or processed soy. Highly-digestible, and have been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. Almonds are prebiotics that favorably alters the microbiome of the intestinal tract.
Almond butter is food grade produced to a high standard without processing aids. The natural almonds are soaked in hot water to remove their seed coat, a process called blanching. Almond butter is prepared by grinding blanched almonds into a homogeneous mass, this process maintains the nutrition profile unchanged.
Buckwheat Flour
Tapioca Maltodextrin
Tapioca maltodextrin, derived from the root vegetable cassava (think: yuca) is an easy-to-digest form of carbohydrate and is free of taste, smell, and flavor. Tapioca maltodextrin is made using water and an all-natural enzyme. Tapioca maltodextrin is food grade produced to a high standard with safe processing aids. Starch hydrolyzation to facilitate digestion (instead of cooking - causes high viscosity)with alpha and beta-amylase enzymes, which are used for hydrolyzation of starches to maltodextrins used in infant formulas, recommended in Codex guidelines to reduce starch in order to improve digestibility and solubility
OTHER INGREDIENT INFORMATION
Ingredient List
Else Nutrition products are made of three natural, whole food ingredients that make up at least 92% of final formulation. Ingredient lists on food labels are listed in order of ingredient by weight. For statements indicating ingredients less than 2%, this may indicate that there is less than 2% of each individual ingredient listed rather than 2% collectively. Additionally, ingredients listed after this statement are exempt from being listed by order of weight. Per 21 CFR 101.4:
“(2) The descending order of predominance requirements of paragraph (a)(1) of this section do not apply to ingredients present in amounts of 2 percent or less by weight when a listing of these ingredients is placed at the end of the ingredient statement following an appropriate quantifying statement, e.g., ‘Contains _ percent or less of ___’ or ‘Less than _ percent of ___.’……No ingredient to which the quantifying phrase applies may be present in an amount greater than the stated threshold.”
Vitamin & Mineral Sources
The added vitamins are sourced from a customized vitamin mix that meets high quality standards: Vegan, ISO 9001, Halal, Kosher, HACCP, cGMP, GMO-free, Allergen Monitoring. Else Nutrition products contain the vegan form of vitamin D3 (lichen based).
